COVID-19, AN UNEXPECTED TEACHER TO MANY!

The first day I get to know it was not when it was called “Covid-19”. It was when I was scrolling my Instagram page and read something unusual: “A virus is spreading from Wuhan City, China, and it is deemed to become a pandemic.” At first, I thought, it would remain where it came from. But later on, the media started mentioning it as a pandemic in all headlines.

I also thought that as long as China is somehow advanced in medicine, they would fight it with a treatment in a couple of weeks. But the cases kept on increasing until Covid-19 was brought to the attention of everyone as a global pandemic—as some other countries were getting affected!

Again, I thought the pandemic was just the flu that will vanish in a month without killing anyone. But still, the cases were increasing daily until I heard of thousands who were dying of Covid-19 at a global scale. Then I realized that things were getting more serious.

That’s when I started reading a lot about what was happening worldwide and realized that the stuff was real! I also realized that countries were then setting up measures to contain the virus to safeguard their people. However, cases were increasing daily and then I wondered how the global health system would be unable to stop it.

Measures were being taken including the lockdown as the airports were being screened on board. Measures kept on being set from the physical touch avoidance to the social distancing until people were told to stay home for 15 days, then other 15 days, then other 15 days until months passed!

Sporting places and bars were no longer loud on weekends, gyms were closed, churches were closed, and restaurants turned to take-out food shops. Large gatherings were banned and people could only connect at home and outside home only using digital platforms except for emergencies!

Hairs and moustaches were growing so wild as barbershops were not working. Lipsticks were becoming optional for ladies due to the facial masks and eat-outs were forgotten. Selfie-Photos were becoming scarce as people would hide their faces from the mass media. I even thought of having an Afro-hair or dreadlocks but I didn’t want to look like a stranger to my family and friends! I tried my best to keep the usual hairstyle. The confined lifestyle was becoming another norm and even dads were trying unusual diets like porridges. Hahaha.

However, even if the journey of fighting Covid-19 is promising and we may soon return to the usual life at a certain degree, but things have changed and practical lessons were seriously learnt throughout this pandemic. Some things of life won’t happen again as they used to be.

People have learnt to survive without bars and restaurants for a while. Others have learnt to survive on weekends without soccer or gym. Others have learnt what family life means. Others have learnt to be cool to their small kids. Others have learnt to help others in their financial deficit. Others have learnt that connecting with God doesn’t just take attending churches. In brief, people have learnt the essence of living without so many luxuries.

As we wait for what may come out of this pandemic, let’s remember that nothing surprises our God Almighty, Jehovah. He is in control of everything. Let’s learn to trust Him in a more consistent way. Let’s read His Written Word—The Bible—which can only keep us firm even in a world that can’t offer hope.

Above all, let’s repent from our sins whether they be secret or public, as long as we are breathing now. Let’s share what really matters in this life and the life to come. Let’s seek more of getting to know God and His Son Jesus-Christ who is the Only Way to Eternal Life and Him alone knows what happened in the past, what is happening now and what will happen in the future!
